The start-up Dipteron from the ESA BIC Hessen & Baden-Württemberg can announce a big success: They were selected for the Open Call 1 of the Parsec Accelerator Program and won a cash prize of 10K Euro.
Among 348 applicants from 36 countries 100 applicants were selected in the Open Call 1 – Dipteron reached the very good 24th rank.
In the upcoming phase Dipteron is going to select their partners to build a Consortium for the second Open Call. 15 teams can enter the Open Call 2 and win 100K Euro.
Check out the pitch from the CEO Ana Cristina Galhego Rosa:
Dipteron is an application for detecting Aedes mosquito risk areas. Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya are viral diseases transmitted by the same mosquito, the Aedes species. In recent years the spread of these diseases has become a worldwide issue for public health. The rapid spread of the Aedes mosquito has affected vast areas which cannot be monitored using terrestrial methods alone.
Early identification of vulnerable areas is crucial to control the advancement of diseases.
Dipteron, referring to ‘insects with a single pair of functional wings’, has developed an application for detecting the risk areas of the Aedes mosquito, deriving environmental and climatic factors from satellite data, especially Earth Observation data.
