The GNSS-INDOOR project

The GNSS-INDOOR project

Especially in the logistics sector navigation is faced with challenges: warehouse, factory premises and transport routes have different spatial conditions. A navigation technology alone can only cover these with severe difficulties – therefore, a combined use of various technologies seems appropriate.

The project was conducted over a period of slightly more than 2 years and completed in April 2009 with a successful field trial at the airport Halle / Leipzig.

Six project partners

The project "Innovative technologies and their demonstration of indoor positioning” (GNSS-INDOOR) focused on the combination of different tracking systems. Six project partners studied, tested and demonstrated this combination of technologies to locate and navigate inside different types of buildings and their direct environment. The detailed selection of technologies to be tested was made in the first project phase, with a focus on different systems for logistics and security applications.

State funding

The project was funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the Space Agency of the German Center for Aerospace (DLR) under grant number 50 NA 0701.
